Why Spectrum Changes Everything
The light spectrum and its dynamics directly influence behaviour, circadian rhythms, colour vision and the overall health of animals. Every species has unique photobiological requirements that generic lighting cannot meet.
Reptiles & Tortoises
UV-B radiation (280-315 nm) is essential for vitamin D3 synthesis, which is critical for bone metabolism and calcium absorption.
Birds
Tetrachromatic vision with UV-A perception. Critical flicker fusion frequency (CFF) of 80 to 145 Hz — far beyond the human 55-70 Hz range. Flicker is a major stressor.
Nocturnal Mammals
Red light >620 nm to avoid disrupting the circadian cycle. Strict luminous intensity control to preserve natural nocturnal activity patterns.
Aquatic Species
Zooxanthellae-bearing corals require a blue/violet spectrum (400-490 nm) with a PAR of 150 to 500 μmol/m²/s for optimal photosynthesis.
Flicker-Free: a Biological Necessity
LEDs must operate above 100 Hz, or even on DC power, for the most sensitive species. Birds, with a CFF of up to 145 Hz, perceive 50/60 Hz flicker as a permanent strobe, generating chronic stress and behavioural disruption.
CRI ≥95 for Visitors, Species-Adapted Spectrum for Wildlife
A high CRI ensures natural colour rendering for the visitor experience. However, the true priority remains the species-adapted spectrum and total absence of flicker — both indispensable to animal welfare in a captive environment.
EAZA Standards & Animal Welfare
The European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) standards require lighting conditions tailored to each species. Our solutions natively integrate these requirements into every lighting design.
Multi-parameter gradients
Light, temperature, UV and humidity gradients to recreate realistic micro-habitats within each enclosure.
Species-specific UV dosing
Precise UV-A and UV-B dosing adapted to the physiological needs of each taxon, with shaded refuge zones.
Backup systems
Redundancy and emergency generator provisions required. Our installations include backup circuits to maintain critical light cycles.
Heating & hygrometry integration
Coordinated control of lighting, heating and hygrometric regulation via DALI-2 and DMX512 protocols.
Solutions by Space
Every zoological environment has unique constraints. Our solutions are custom-designed to meet the specific requirements of each habitat.
Vivariums & Terrariums
Tropical day/night cycles with species-dosed UV-B 280-320 nm. Pre-programmed desert, tropical and Mediterranean profiles. Integrated temperature and light gradients.
Tropical Greenhouses
Lush vegetation supported by low-heat LEDs covering the PAR spectrum 400-700 nm. Natural cycles faithfully reproduced with shade zones for animal and plant comfort.
Aquariums & Reef Tanks
Blue/violet spectrum (400-490 nm) optimised for coral zooxanthellae photosynthesis. Priority band 420-480 nm, PAR 150 to 500 μmol/m²/s according to simulated depth.
Aviaries
Progressive dawn/dusk simulation to prevent mass panic. Warm spectrum in morning and evening, natural daylight during the day. Flicker-free mandatory for high avian CFF values.
Nocturamas
Reversed deep-red lighting (>620-650 nm) to enable observation without disturbing nocturnal animals. Strict intensity control and preserved circadian cycle.
Public Areas & Visitor Trails
Visitor reception at 3000-4000K, CRI 95+ for natural colour rendering. Immersive light scenography with DALI-2 and DMX512 control for special events.
Architecture & Planting
Beyond enclosures, architectural lighting and live planting contribute to the immersive experience of modern zoological parks.
Indoor Living Walls
PPFD of 150 to 250 μmol/m²/s for indoor plants. LED spots and bars positioned at 40-50 cm from foliage, ±10 % uniformity guaranteed across the entire planted surface.
Heritage Conservation
UV- and infrared-free LED to protect sensitive materials. Compliant with museographic standards for historic buildings and the educational exhibition areas of parks.
HQE / BREEAM Buildings
High-efficiency LED (>180 lm/W) dimmable to meet environmental certifications. Contribution to energy credits under sustainable construction labels.
Wet Environments & Scenography
IP65/IP67 protection for humid environments (misting, waterfalls, pools). DALI-2 and DMX512 control for dynamic and immersive light scenographies.
Technical Specifications
Measurable, certified performance engineered to last in the most demanding environments.
Ingress Protection
IP65 / IP67
Protection against water jets and temporary immersion. Ideal for tropical greenhouses, aquariums and misting zones.
Control Protocols
DALI-2 & DMX512
Industrial control protocols for dynamic scenographies, precise dimming and BMS/BAS integration.
Colour Rendering
CRI 95+
Colour rendering index above 95 for visitor spaces, ensuring faithful perception of habitats.
